Centre rejects Proposal to grant Licence to Posco for Khandadhar Mines

Bhubaneswar, April 09: In a huge blow to Odisha government, the Centre rejected its proposal to allocate Khandadhar mines to Korean steel giant Posco for proposed USD 12 billion mega steel plant near Paradip in Odisha.

Odisha government had requested the Centre to grant licence to Psoco for the proposed project, but the Modi government said that the Korean major should take part in the auction process like other mines to get the allocation.

Last month, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had written a letter to the Centre requesting it to exempt Posco from the auction process in special case. But, replying to the letter, Union Steel and Mines minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that all the mines should be auctioned as per the amendment to the MMDR ACT.
