Jayanarayan Mishra arrested for violating Sec 144 in Sambalpur

Sambalpur, April 15: Senior BJP leader and former MLA Jayanarayan Mishra on Wednesday was arrested in Sambalpur for violating section 144 imposed by the district administration during the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti yesterday.

Mishra is accused of displaying a sharp weapon in public during a rally on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

Yesterday, the district administration had issued a prohibitory order under section 144 on display of weapons during the procession to mark the Hanuman Jayanti in the city. However, Mishra took part in the procession and displayed a sword.

He was arrested by the Ainthapalli police. This had triggered tension in the area. His supporters opposed the arrest of the leader and clashed with the police.

Reacting to his own arrest, the BJP leader Mishra said that he had not violated any law. Displaying sword and weapon was a part of the rituals during the procession of the occasion.
