Setback to Reliance, Plea against OERC Order rejected

News

Bhubaneswar, April 22: In a setback to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, two interim pleas filed by its three power distribution companies (discoms) challenging the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) order were rejected yesterday.

The Appellate Tribunal on Electricity (ATE) on Tuesday rejected the pleas saying the final order of cancellation of licenses is reserved.

The three discoms owned by Reliance had appealed the tribunal against the OERC order of cancellation of the licences, taking away the management and control of their assets and removing their CEOs.

The OERC had cancelled the licenses of three discoms - WESCO, NESCO, and SOUTHCO - under section 19 of the Electricity Act, 2013 with immediate effect on March 4 citing their performance in the regions were non-satisfactory.

The Commission had ordered the Gridco CMD to manage the electricity supply in those regions.
