JB Patnaik rests in Peace, given Guard of Honour

Puri, April 23: Former chief minister of Odisha Janaki Ballav Patnaik closed his eyes forever. His mortal remains were mingled with the five elements of the Universe.

The final journey of his mortal body was most piteous for his supporters and villagers. Thousands of people were waiting at Swarga Dwara to have last darshan of their leader.

His body was brought to his village Rameswar in Khordha district, later moved to Puri in a procession. The vehicle reached Swarga Dwara through Bada Danda (Grand Road) at around 8.30 pm. The last rites were performed and he was given a guard of honout. His son Prithvi Ballav Patnaik lit the funeral pyre on his face. This was emotional scene and his supporters burst into tears. 

Several political leaders across party lines were present during the cremation. Ministers Devi Mishra, Pradeep Maharathy and MLA Maheswar Mohanty were present on behalf of the state government to bid farewell to the great leader.
