Rajnath gives Clean Chit to Delhi Police over Death of Farmer at AAP Rally

New Delhi, April 23: Giving clean chit to Delhi police over the death of a farmer during the rally of AAP at Jantar Mantar in national capital yesterday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the farmer was provoked by the crowd for which he took the extreme step.

Clarifying about the incident to the Lok Sabha, Singh said that Delhi police had asked the gathering to stop applauding and raising slogans when the victim identified as Gajendra Singh was climbing the tree and was talking to the crowd about his tragedy.

An FIR has been registered at the Parliament street police station. The case has been handed over to crime branch of Delhi police to investigate the real fact behind the suicide.

Therefore, this matter should not be politicised, he said in the House today.

Reacting to the statement, AAP leader Kumar Vishwas slammed the Modi government alleging the Delhi police of not doing its duty to save that farmer, who committed suicide during the rally.

He alleged that Rajnath Singh lied in the House by saying that Delhi police was not allowed to do their job as they were obstructed by the crowd. Referring to Mukesh Kumar Meena quotation, he said that Meena had said yesterday that it was not the job of the police to get farmer down from the tree. The security was provided to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

What Home Minister said in Parliament is not in line with what the Delhi Police said, he told the reporters.

He said that the sacrifice of Gajendra will not go in vain, all the possible help will be provided to his family. The party has announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the kins of the farmer.

He questioned why the matter was handed over to crime branch for the probe. His party demanded magisterial enquiry to reach the bottom of the matter at earliest.
