Govt vs CJI: Justice Dattu to skip Panel to appoint NJAC Members

New Delhi, April 28: The government and the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice HL Dattu stood against each other on the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC).

Yesterday, Justice Dattu wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that he will not join the panel to select judges until the Supreme Court decides the validity of the new system.

Justice Dattu was asked to attend the proposed meeting where PM Modi and LoP in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge will be present.

Under the provision of NJAC Act, the CJI, PM and LoP will select two members who will join the panel that will consist of CJI, Law Minister, and two senior judges of the apex court.
