Blow to Kejriwal as SC stays Anti-media Defamation Circular

New Delhi, May 14: In a major embarrassment to the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court stayed a circular by AAP-led government which mandated the filing of defamation cases against media organisations for publishing or broadcasting news that damage reputation of the Chief Minister, his council of ministers and the government.

The Apex Court today questioned CM Arvind Kejriwals stand on the issue.

The court reportedly questioned Kejriwals "doublespeak" on the issue. The court said on one hand the Delhi CM had earlier approached the court seeking relief in a criminal defamation case filed against him and on the other hand his government issues such a circular against media.

The court has given six-week time to Arvind Kejirwal to respond on the issue.A criminal defamation case had been filed against Kejriwal by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari when the AAP leader named Gadkari in the list of corrupt leaders during his public speech.
