Playgrounds in GPs to be developed in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 23: The Odisha government will develop the playgrounds in all the 6,236 gram panchayats by 2017. The directive was made by chief minister Naveen Patnaik to the Sports and Youth Affairs at a review meeting yesterday.

The development of the playground was one of the promises made during election manifesto last year.

As per the move, a total of Rs 5 lakh will be spent for each playground in the panchayats.

The CM also directed to enhance the financial assistances for the youth clubs, while appreciating the department for appointing the sports persons for various posts. A total of 31 talented sports persons have been appointed directly so far in the Group C and D posts of the police department in the first phase.

The sports persons in the state have been awarded and the amount of Rs 2.59 crore has been spent to award 365 sports persons in 2014-15.

He laid emphasis on the development of the sports hostels and centre for the hockey and arrow sporting.
