Sensex slips over 200 points, Nifty plungs below 8450

Mumbai, May 25: The Sensex plunged over 200 points in early trade today, led by losses in ITC, Vedanta, Coal India and HDFC. The 50-share Nifty index also came under pressure which pushed the index below its crucial psychological support level of 8450, weighed down by losses in auto, banks, metal and FMCG stocks.

At 11 am, the 30-share Sensex was quoted at 27,840.94, down 116 points or 0.4 percent, after slipping to a low of 27,814.10, down 143 points from its previous close.

The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was down 29 points or 0.3 percent at 8,430.
