Kejriwal Govt to pass Resolution against Centre Notification

New Delhi, May 27: The two-day emergency session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly will end today amid a bitter fight between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The Kejriwal government is likely to pass a resolution against MHA notification granting more powers to the LG.

Resolution says MHA notification is an attempt to encroach the powers of Delhi assembly on the part of Centre.Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia yesterday said MHA notification disrespects people mandate given to the AAP government.

A notification had been issued on May 21 on behalf of the Union Home Ministry, which gave the LG powers with regard to services, public order, police and land powers. The notification also said the LG may act according to his discretion or if needed, seek the Chief minister advice in case of services.

Row erupted after senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlinwas appointed the acting Chief Secretary by the LG. The decision was opposed tooth and nail by the Arvind Kejriwal government. Kejriwal questioned the rights of the Lt. Governor and charged him with attempting to govern Delhi.
