JP Nadda to hold meet on Maggi issue

New Delhi, June 4: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda is expected to hold a meeting today with officials regarding the Nestle Maggi noodles issue. Nadda will take stock of the entire controversy and decide regarding further action. Earlier, the Union Minister had promised that his ministry will take appropriate action considering reports from all states.

The health ministry had issued an advisory to all the states and told them to take samples of Maggi noodles and report by 1 June. The states have started sending their reports. However, a few are still left. Nadda said he will act accordingly after getting a complete picture.

The issue came to the forefront after Maggi samples from Uttar Pradesh were allegedly found contaminated with lead and had excess of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG).Many states including Delhi, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh have banned Nestle Maggi noodles. Bihar government is likely to ban the two-minute noodles today in the state. The Delhi government has given 15 days to Nestle and has asked it to withdraw the existing stock from market.
