Nabakalebar controversy: Civil society organisations demanded CBI probe

Bhubaneswar, June 28: In reaction over alleged involvement of educational entrepreneur as well as founder of KIIT, now a deemed university, and KISS, Achyut Samant, mass Demonstration and Protest Meeting was held by 28 Civil Society Organisations in Bhubaneswar Sunday, June 28. Participants torched effigy of Chief Minister, Achyut Samant and other allegedly errant ministers and ruling party leaders.

As alleged by a servitor, who was part of team engaged for selection of the daru for lord Jagannath, Samant bribed the leader of the team to select the particular tree as Daru of lord Jagannath.

Demanding CBI probe into fixing of Daru, the special timber required for making of idols of Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, and also into all irregularities that took place during transfer od Brahma, the soul of the lords, the civil society leaders condemned the state government and others like Achyut Samant for their role in the spiritual event of Nabakalebar.

In the meantime, to save its face from damages due to allegations of wrongdoing against many of its cabinet ministers the government of Odisha has ordered for an inquiry into rumours and pictures roaming in the social media.

However, civil society leaders term it as another eyewash by the government to save its ministers and other influential persons involved in the game.
