Female Dentist, mother detained for shoplifting

Bhubaneswar,July 9 : The Sahid Nagar police on wednesday arrested  a female dentist and her mother on charges of shoplifting in different malls in Bhubaneswar. 

The accused have been identified as Kalyani Prusti and her mother Kushum.

Based on the visuals captured in a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera, police were able to track the accused and arrest them, said sources.

Puspaja Dhal, owner of Manisha Boutique of plot number 585/1 in Saheed Nagar area had lodged an FIR at the local police station on June 11 last alleging two ladies came to her shop posing as customers and stole three sarees and two suit pieces on the pretext of purchasing articles.

According to police sources, while the dentist was working at a private hospital here, her father recently retired as a chief manager of a reputed bank.

Police have seized 165 handbags, 28 sarees and 15 dresses from their house. The recovered stolen items are expected to be worth more than Rs 2 lakh. A motor cycle and a mobile phone were also seized during the raid, sources added.

Though police termed the mother-daughter as a gang which looted fashion items from different malls, they suspected it to be psychological disorder or tendency.
