Hand chopping case: Doctor rules out graft possibility

Bolangir, July 9: The grief-stricken family of Kshirod Mishra,  both of whose hands were chopped off by a gang of rival youths of his village Raghavpali in Odisha’s Bolangir district yesterday, received yet another telling blow when a senior doctor at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on wednesday ruled out the possibility of grafting of his two severed hands.

"There is no possibility of grafting of the two chopped hands of the victim as they have been badly damaged. The muscles in both the hands are dead as there have been several injuries on them. Considering this, any effort to graft these hands would pose a serious threat to his life. Our prime motive is to keep him alive. We are not going to take any chances," Prof. Arun Kumar Choudhury, head of the Plastic Surgery department of the hospital told to media.

Meanwhile, Bolangir SP Deepak Kumar informed the media that the police are keeping a close watch on the situation in the village.

"We have intensified search operation against the absconding accused and will nab them very soon," he said.
