Couple arrested in Odisha capital for duping students

Bhubaneswar, July 9: Commissionerate police on wednesday arrested a man and his wife for failing to provide certificates to the students after completion of their courses in their institute.

Nayapalli police have levelled fraud charges against the couple.

Police said, Manoranjan Mohapatra and his wife Alka, who were running an institute named Kanaka Institute of Technical Education and Science (KITES) in Behera Sahi in Nayapalli area here had duped hundreds of students promising them to provide certificates after completion of their courses.

The couple took Rs 2 lakh from each student for admissions in their respective courses but after they completed their course the duo didn’t give them certificates,said sources.


"A case has been registered in this regard following a complaint lodged by Jayaram Sahoo, father of one of the students. Acting on the complaint, we have arrested the husband and wife," said a police officer of Nayapalli police station.
