BJP slams Odisha Govt for police crackdown on villagers

Bhubaneswar, July 12, 2015: Odisha wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the BJD government in Odisha for police crackdown on villagers seeking shift of a proposed river bridge site in Keonjhar district.

The recent police crackdown at Belabahali near Anandpur was engineered by the government to divert attention of people from Nabakalebar fiasco," said KV Singhdeo, state BJP President.

Alleging that at least 114 people have been arrested from Belabahali since July 7, Singhdeo sought that all of them, particularly women, must be released immediately.

Expressing concern over arrest of seven of the women, who have infants below one year age, Singhdeo said that power supply to the village was being disrupted between 7 PM to 7 AM daily to intimidate the villagers.

"Stating that the villagers were not opposing the bridge over Kosei river and simply sought a location change, the BJP leader said if the people's demands were not acceded to, the party would launch a march from Belabahali to Bhubaneswar in protest," reported PTI.
