youth beaten to death by SOG jawans

Nuapada,August19: One youth was allegedly beaten to death and other sustained critical injuries after the jawans of Special Operations Group (SOG) detained three youths and beat them up at their Soseng camp under Komna police limits in the district.

According to sources, the deceased has been identified as Chitta Ranjan Sahoo.

After the death of Chitta Ranjan, the other two other persons were brought to Komna police station. While one of them, a minor was detained at the police station, the other was admitted to Burla Medical College and Hospital, said sources.

Following the incident, protests have sparked in the area against the SOG brutality. While the family member of the victims moved to the local police station to lodge an FIR, the locals were seen staging protests. As many as 500 villagers today gheraoed Komna police station demanding probe into the matter.

After receiving complaint the police has formed an eight-member team and started investigation into the matter, said Mahendra Kumar Patel, ASP of the district adding that five platoons of forces have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.

Notably a few days ago, these youths threatened some teachers of Sosang area by identifying themselves as Maoists. Scared by the threatening, the teachers approached the SOG jawans. After getting complaints from the teachers, the jawans had detained the three youths.
