SC gives verdict in favour of Dhoni over portrayal of Lord Vishnu on a magazine cover

New Delhi, September 14: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed criminal proceedings initiated against cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni for deliberately hurting the religious sentiments being portrayed as Lord Vishnu in the magazine cover of Business Today.

The issue had been going on since April 2013,when the edition of the Business Today magazine posted the photo of Dhoni as Lord Vishnu titled under 'The God of Big Deals' which resulted in complaint being filed against Dhoni, the publisher and the editor of the magazine.

Earlier, the Karnataka High Court refused to provide any relief to the cricketer, after which Dhoni moved to the SC in a special leave petition challenging the HC's order declining to hear him under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code for quashing of the criminal proceedings.

A Bench led by Justice P.C. Ghose also issued notice to the petitioner who filed a complaint against him for offence under Section 295A.
