Terrrorist Attack Near Peshawar Air Base

Islamabad;Sept 18: Terrorist raided an air force base in north west Pakistan near Peshawar.

Sources said the attack centered on a residential area of Badaber camp where high ranking officers were stationed who were probably the target of the assault.

A heavy contingent of the Quick Reaction Force has reached the spot and exchanges of fire with the fighters are ongoing.

About seven to 10 militants launched the base attack early Friday morning. Security forces responded, killing eight, Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa said in a series of tweets.

Soldiers were combing through the facility looking for the others.

The military side suffered 10 injuries, including an Army major who was shot in the thigh, Bajwa said.

The Pakistani Taliban, known in the country as Tehrik-i-Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

Peshawar suffered the worst attack in Pakistani history in December when Taliban gunmen killed more than 150 people at an army-run school, most of them children.
