Diabetes clinics sealed on charges of quakery:Odisha

Bhubaneswar,November 4:Joint Director of Medical Education and Training Umakanta Satpathy and his team on Tuesday conducted a raid and sealed two diabetes as well as cardiometaobolism clinics in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for operating in violation of rules.

It was alleged that the clinics were being run by a person who is not an allopathic doctor. Quacks were allegedly examining patients and prescribing medicines at these clinics, one at Jaydev Vihar in Bhubaneswar and another at Cuttack.

Satpathy said raids were conducted following receipt of many complaints, even some from the highest levels. The clinics were run by a non-professional person. There was a pathology lab functioning illegally without registration. Further actions
would be taken soon, he said.

The clinics were allegedly functioning without obtaining mandatory registration under the Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act. The person who was projected as the doctor-in-charge allegedly was not an allopathic but a degree holder in alternative medicine.
