Odisha CM directed party workers to meet debt-ridden farmers

Bhubaneswar,November 6: Odisha Chief minister Naveen Patnaik was on Thursday directed his MPs, MLAs and  party members to visit panchayats and inform farmers about the package of assistance announced by the State government.

The party member said, the farmers worried over crop failure and loan burden must be aware about the financial assistance announced for them.

The Opposition is misleading the farmers by politicking over unfortunate deaths of farmers and dubbing each one as farmer suicide due to crop loss and loan burden.

Our government is a pro farmer government and it has always stood by the farmers during past calamities be it in 2010 or 2011, CM said.

Reviews were conducted and steps taken to save crops. The package has been announced and loan repayment has been rescheduled while instructions have been issued that farmers would get fresh rabi crop loan, it adding to this.

Instead of cooperating with the government to help farmers in drought hit areas, the Opposition is resorting to cheap politics over alleged farmers suicides, regretted the BJD president.

He called upon party legislators, district presidents and workers to reach out to each panchayat and farmers and explain the package of assistance to them. 'Meet farmers, discuss their problems and try to resolve them. Give special attention to this and move the tehsil and local administration is helping the farmers.
