12 children rescued from Bhubaneswar Railway station

Bhubaneswar,November 7: The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan  taskforce on Friday have been rescued 12 children from Bhubaneswar  railway station at afternoon around 3 pm. They were involved in rag-picking and begging  in Odisha capital.

Commissionerate Police, child helpline and the NGO Peacock were instrumental in rescuing the 8 boys and 4 girls poor children.

The 12 rescued children were later handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. Seven children have been transferred to Vishwa Jeevan Seva Sangha and five others are currently staying with NGO Ruchika.

"The CWC will decide whether all the rescued children will be sent to the  Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan hostels or some of them will be returned to their homes", said Bendhar Senapati,  Childline staff.

Under Right to Education Act the rescued children will be admitted to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan's, five hostels that have been constructed for this purpose in Bhubaneswar. Around 250 children can be accommodated in these hostels, which will be starting soon.
