Tata Steel's 2nd plant inaugurates by CM

Jajpur,November 18: The second major Tata Steel in Kalinganagar area will  inaugurated by chief minister Naveen Patnaik today.

This will be second biggest plant of the steel major in India, the sources said.

The plant which spread across 2200 acre land has been established at an investment of Rs 25,000 crore and has a production capacity of 6 million tonne per annum.

Adding to this, Tata Steel had inked a MoU with the Odisha government to set up 6 million tonne steel plant at Kalinganagar in November, 2004. But due to agitation by the land losers, which even led to a police firing in January, 2006, claiming lives of 14 agitators, the work could not be taken up on the project till about 2010.

The district administration has beefed up security arrangements in Kalinganagar area as this will be the first visit of the chief minister after the 2006 firing incident.
