The victims were identified as Pushpanjali Mandal, Nibeni Raita and Sujata Sabar, who were in the age group of 10 to 13 years.

While Pushpanjali and Nibeni died in the room itself Friday night, Sujata succumbed on way to hospital, police said.

The suffocation was caused due to lack of oxygen inside the room where they were sleeping. The girls had lit a fire in their hostel room at Kesipur residential school due to the cold, police said. PTI
