The recent escalation in Maoist violence is believed to have spurred the Centre to call for a brain-storming session on the issue.
A re-look at existing strategies and formulation of new ones is also on the cards.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the CM's conference on internal security, Naveen Patnaik has requested the Centre for deployment of another five battalions of Central paramilitary forces in the northern districts because this portion shares its borders with West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh.
Besides, he also requested for grant of funds to sustain its efforts in the battle against Left-wing extremism, and to build a more robust internal security system.
Lately, after a meeting with Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had said the anti-naxal operations would stop only if the Left-wing extremists abjured violence and decided to come to the negotiating table.
According to sources, the Centre has decided to chalk out a foolproof plan to counter the rebels, who have gone hi-tech and are using modern communication equipment to thwart the security forces. |
