Mumbai: Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team mid fielder- Mariana Kujur, dreams to play at the Olympics but wants to become the best mid fielder in the world.
"National level hockey player Lilima Minz and Namita Toppo are my inspiration in my career and I am fortunate enough to be guided by them for my career growth . Their journey make me feel excited and confident because that means I can do such things as well," said Mariana in an official release issued by Hockey India.
The 21-year-old Marianna was a part of the Indian Junior Women's Team which won the Silver Medal at the 6-Nations Invitational Tournament 2018 in Belgium. She hails from a small village of Timna, which lies in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. She also dreams to make her parents proud by watching her on TV.
"I come from an area where Hockey is played in every village using any wood pieces we find. I was fortunate that my elder brother was passionate about the sport. I played with him and my friends in the village. At the age of 11, in 2010 I got selected for Panposh hostel after many trials," she said remembering her earlier days.
"I have so many great players to watch in our Senior team, and I believe if I can pick up the good qualities of all of those players, I can become a complete player, and help my team also become the best in the world," she concluded.
