Love Triangle Ends in Murder: Five Arrested in Bhubaneswar Hit-and-Run Case
A Bhubaneswar hit-and-run case has taken a dramatic turn after police uncovered evidence suggesting it was a planned murder linked to a love triangle. Five accused, including the victim's girlfriend's former lover, have been arrested.

A shocking twist has emerged in the alleged hit-and-run case under Chandrasekharpur police limits, with investigators now treating it as a premeditated murder linked to a love triangle. The victim, Barenya Rautray, was allegedly targeted by a group led by his girlfriend's former lover. What initially appeared to be a road accident has now been uncovered as a planned attack, according to police investigations. Police sources said the accused, identified as Suraj, along with his associates, allegedly conspired to eliminate Barenya over a personal relationship dispute. Five persons have been arrested so far, and further interrogation is underway.
According to the investigation, Barenya and two of his friends were first attacked near Acharya Harihar College Square using cricket stumps and other weapons. After sustaining injuries, the victims reportedly attempted to flee to save themselves. However, the attackers allegedly chased them in a Mahindra Thar SUV. Police suspect that Barenya was deliberately run over by the vehicle while trying to escape, resulting in his death.
Investigators have reportedly gathered crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and inputs from PCR personnel, which suggest that the incident was not an accident but a targeted killing. The Thar vehicle allegedly used in the crime has been seized. Police have arrested the prime accused, Suraj, along with several of his associates. Authorities are now probing the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the crime.
The case has sparked widespread discussion, highlighting how a personal relationship dispute allegedly escalated into a brutal act of violence. Police continue to investigate all aspects of the case and are expected to reveal more details as the inquiry progresses.
